The fugitive slave law was issued in 1850. It made the northern people return any runaway slaves to their owners. This was so enforced that the already free African- Americans were taken to the south because they matched the description of the runaway slaves. The fugitive slaves and innocent African-American people were denied jury trials. There were more federal agents to enforce the new law. It bolstered the abolitionist movement. The Georgia platform was when Georgia accepted the measures of the compromise, as long as the North complied with the fugitive slave law and would not be allowed to ban the expansion of slavery into new territories and states. This endorsement of the Compromise of 1850 temporarily stopped the movement for the southerners to secede.  Look for my nex
